Frequently Asked Questions

  • This is a tough question because it truly varies by each project. As a general rule, after completing all interviews with primary and secondary subjects, we take four to six weeks to create the full draft of the story. Especially complex stories might take a little longer, and more straightforward stories may get finished quicker.

Once the text of your story is finalized, and all pictures to be included have been provided (and captioned, if applicable), it takes approximately seven working days to finalize the digital layout.

Once that look is approved, printing and delivering a hardcover book takes approximately two to three weeks.

Rush production is available, but it will increase the cost.

  • In short, we estimate the number of hours it will take to complete the book you're requesting.

We ask specific questions in an introductory conversation to get a sense of the project's scale.

Factors that can increase cost include:

    • Including in-depth text regarding ancestry or family history

    • Extensive travel, particularly extended stays in different geographical locations

    • Detailed military service

    • Interviews with people who are not primary subjects of the story

Stories start at $5,500. Before we begin, you'll know exactly how much your book will cost.

  • Depends on the request. Contact us and let us know what you're looking for, and we can tell you if it makes sense to use us.

Examples of what we can do:

    • Cover a specific period of time in a person's life (military service, getting married, significant career milestone, etc...)

    • Abbreviated bios for corporate-type publications

  • Typically, we provide final drafts of books in both hardcover and digital (eBook) format.

The books are designed and printed by professionals, and we can order as few or as many as you'd like.

  • OurGlass does not offer book marketing or distribution services.

We recommend you think of this book as a family heirloom, not a financial investment.

If you are adamant about putting the book on the market, we can help facilitate the process. However, we cannot guarantee any sales, and this may incur additional costs.

  • Absolutely! Contact us first, and we'll review anything we need to know before we reach out to the subject(s).

  • Yes. You have final say over everything in the book. During the drafting and review processes, you can make as many changes as you'd like.

If you want to make changes after the book has been printed, you will be responsible for the additional printing costs as well as any art charges needed for the book's formatting.

  • We'll work with you to create a tribute book. See our Services page for a more detailed description.

  • You'd be surprised at what you do have. We can guarantee that your life story is important to somebody.

Of course, going forward is entirely up to you.

  • Our policy asks for ten percent of the total cost before the interview process begins.
